Practice Plan for Monday 11/28

November 27, 2011 Leave a comment

Plan on meeting in the field house at 3:00 PM in your street clothes.

We will collect your forms, compile a roster list, and then go up to the locker room at around 3:30 and change as a team before starting practice.

You must have your physical form, your emergency treatment card and your WHS Activity fee ($50) before you will be allowed to practice.

The physical form is linked here. If you have one on file from a fall sport, your name should be on the Athletic Department’s list. If it isn’t, you’ll need to bring a photocopy of the original you submitted in the fall before you’ll be allowed to practice.

The Emergency Treatment Card is linked here. Even if you filled one out for a fall activity, you need a new one for wrestling. The form must be filled out and signed by you and by a parent/guardian before you’ll be allowed to practice.

The $50 WHS Activity Fund fee must be paid before you’ll be allowed to practice. (Please pay by check made out to WHS Activity Fund.) If you’ve already paid the WHS Activity Fund fee as a result of involvement with a fall activity, you do not have to pay it again, but your name must be on the Athletic Department’s list. If it isn’t, you’ll need to check with Ms. Prescott to confirm receipt of payment before you’ll be allowed to practice.

Winter is coming!

November 21, 2011 Leave a comment

No, we’re not the Starks, or Lannisters, or anybody else from George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire or HBO’s Game of Thrones, but winter is still coming, and the WHS winter sports season is just a week away. First practice for WHS Wrestling is next Monday, 11/28.

See the post below for requirements — physical (health) forms, emergency cards, and your WHS activity fee must be taken care of before practice. These MUST be taken care of before first practice.

New wrestlers will have to pick up a pair of wrestling shoes — Sports Authority, Dicks, and others in the area carry them. You don’t need to spend a fortune. As a beginner, spending much more than $50 is probably not going to be worth it as you’re likely to grow out of them anyway. If you wear braces, you’ll need a mouthguard for uppers and lowers( if you wear  braces on both) before you can compete. (You can practice without a mouthguard, but can’t compete without them, so this isn’t urgent.) A pair of knee pads is another good idea — volleyball kneepads work fine, and you can get them at sporting goods stores or even at Wal-mart.

Bring a clean towel, soap or body-wash, and clean clothing every day. Take your dirty clothes home to wash them every day. Good personal hygiene is critical to a successful season. If you don’t have clean workout gear, it’s easy to spread whatever nasties plague you to the rest of the team.

See you in a week.

FYI from WYW – USA Wrestling Clinic in Norwalk on Saturday @ 9:00 AM

November 17, 2011 1 comment

From Coach Young of Wilton Youth Wresting:

Tony Black from USA Wrestling (he works for Les Gutches and is a former AA at Wisconsin) is putting on a clinic on Saturday morning at Nathan Hale Middle School in Norwalk. (The event begins at 9 AM at the school, which is at 176 Strawberry Hill Avenue in East Norwalk off exit 16. ) The clinic is geared towards newer wrestlers. It was originally designed just for our new youth league but some of the local high schools have expressed interest. USA Wrestling is paying all of Tony’s expenses, but Wilton Youth Wrestling is looking for small donations to pay for the custodial costs ($5 per wrestler).

Also, and on a related note, WYW would appreciate any “kid-sized” donations of used wrestling equipment – headgear, shoes, etc. — that’s clean and in good condition. If any current or former wrestlers (or their Moms!) would like to clean out their closets, please Coach Young at tyoung89@gmail.com

WYW has begun its season with practices at the Wilton Y on Tuesday and Thursday nights. About 50(!!!) wrestlers attended the first practice. If you know of anyone who might be interested, information about the program can be found at their website: Wilton Youth Wrestling

Dear Wrestlers and Parents,

The following wrestlers are missing physicals, or have physicals that expire before the end of the season.

Athletes cannot practice until their physicals are turned in.

Anyone listed below should:
a. Get a physical if you have not. <a href=" Click here for the form.“> Your parents fill out part of the form, and your doctor fills out the rest.
b. Speak with Mrs. Prescott (new athletic secretary) if you have any questions about your physical, or need to turn it in.
c. Schedule a physical if your expires during the season (see below.)
d. If you are playing a fall sport, check with Mrs. Prescott, because I’m sure you have a physical.

Please, please, please, take care of this now!

Thanks, Coach Foldeak

Besides physicals, every wrestler must also complete an emergency treatment card, even if they filled one out for a fall sport. Here’s a link to the Emergency Treatment Card. This must also be completed and turned in to Coach Foldeak prior to the start of practice on November 28, 2011.

Also, all activity fees ($50 this year, payable just once, so if you’ve paid for a fall activity, you don’t have to pay again) must be paid to WHS Activity Fund prior to the start of practice on November 28, 2011. Give these checks to Mrs. Prescott now, or bring a check to the first day of practice.
