Meeting Tuesday March 5, after school.

February 28, 2013 Leave a comment

Coach Foldeak would like to meet with all wrestlers after school on Tuesday. All wrestlers from the 2012-13 team should attend. Bring in any equipment, clothing, etc., that you haven’t turned in yet too.

Also, seniors, please respond directly to Mrs. Fraccaroli’s request for a brief reflection on your experience as a wrestler. These will be included in the year-book she’s working on.

In case you’ve forgotten (or in case you never saw it the first time on 2/11), here’s her original request:

“I know, the season is not over yet, but I figured it’s never too soon to start asking for Senior Wrestling Reflections!

In the past, the senior wrestlers have written a paragraph or two about what wrestling has meant to them over their career at WHS. We’ve included the senior reflections in the yearbook we distribute at the banquet.

I’m not looking for a college essay here (whew!), but just some of your personal thoughts about wrestling, advice you might want to leave your underclassmen, special thanks, etc.

Wrestlers in the past have varied what they submit…some wrestlers have written a couple paragraphs, some just one paragraph…others just a few lines…it’s up to you! We’d rather have something personal from each of you than nothing at all!

So please, start thinking about this and email your reflection to me as soon as you’re able. Don’t worry, I’ll keep reminding you until I get it…

Since the emails above may be parent emails instead of seniors, parents, please feel free to forward this to your sons’ personal accounts and copy me on them. this way I can send out reminders to them directly!

Thanks in advance!”

E-mail your reflection to suefracc@gmail.com ASAP please.

Lifting & Off-season Wrestling

February 25, 2013 Leave a comment

Underclass members of the WHS Wrestling team…as well as any interested seniors who want to stay in shape…should be joining their team-mates in the weight room after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, starting this week.

We’re also encouraging all wrestlers to recruit new team-mates for next year, and to continue their skill development by participating in off-season wrestling activities including clubs, tournaments and camps.

We are actively encouraging participation in the Pioneers Wrestling Club run by Sacred Heart’s head coach Andy Lausier on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Trumbull HS, and on Wednesday at Sacred Heart. All practices run from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Here is a link to the flyer for the club.

Preserve Olympic Wrestling Petition

February 13, 2013 Leave a comment

As some of you may know, the International Olympic Committee’s Executive Board voted yesterday to remove wrestling from its core 25 Olympic sports.  Wrestling has been placed in a pool of seven other sports — including baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding and wushu — which will be considered by the Executive Board for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic program as an “additional” sport.

Here is a link to an excellent article which discusses the decision.  It provides some perspective on wrestling’s international governing  body, FILA, and its failure to support the sport effectively.  Most important, it hints at the potentially devastating impact on high-school and college wrestling.

If you are concerned, sign this petition.  You will have to register to sign.  We’ll provide updates as the situation develops.

Friday logistics planning

February 12, 2013 Leave a comment

Our current plan calls for wrestlers participating in the State Class L tournament to be bussed up from WHS and dropped off.

Wrestlers will need transportation back to Wilton (or to where ever they made arrangements to stay overnight) and then back and forth for Saturday weigh ins and competition.

The Dismissal list will be worked out later this week for participants

We need confirmation of all participants plans. JV and non-participating varsity must make their own arrangements.

Please let Coach Foldeak know ASAP.

Thank you.
