Hi, everyone! Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful, restorative summer.

And now for our most lucrative fundraiser of the year for the wrestling team! This involves providing the food for and manning the concession stand at this year’s Homecoming football game at 3:00 on the afternoon of Saturday, October 13th. Please note this date on your calendars. We know it seems early to be thinking about the wrestling season, but every year the proceeds from this event go a long way toward covering the cost of the wrestling team’s needs.

This event is really fun — the couple of hours pass so quickly as we take and place rapid orders from inside the concession stand. Coach Foldeak and Coach Rinaldi will be there, as always, pitching in to make this event successful. If we are allowed to do so, Katie Sakamoto had the great idea to sell our baked goods/candy, etc. on a table outside to allow for more visibility.

On that note, Katie has graciously agreed to lead this year’s important concession stand effort, so you’ll be hearing from her shortly about helpful donations as well as the shifts available for you and your boys to work. (Several of the boys play football, so we will need all other hands on deck!) You also might receive updates on planning progress through Coach Rinaldi helping to facilitiate communication through his WordPress wrestling newsletter as we near Homecoming.

If you know of any new wrestlers, freshmen or otherwise, who should hear about this event, please pass on the word to them and let me know. Thank you so much.

Best to you all,
Sherry McReynolds

Supplies needed to be donated and delivered to the concession stand on Saturday between 1:00 and 2:00:
20 cases of water
20 cases of Gatorade (16 oz)
8 cases of soda Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Rootbeer or Dr. Pepper

2 cases of individually wrapped cookies
Boxes of individually wrapped candy. Big sellers are Skittles, M&M’s, Swedish Fish, Starbursts
Any homemade baked goods individually wrapped which will be sold for $1.00. Nut-free items please.
We would love for each family to donate any quantity of the items listed above, saving the Booster budget for the team’s needs. If you have any other items you would like to donate, please let us know in advance so we can have them on our price list.
If you would like to donate, but cannot drop off on this date please let me know and I can have you drop off any items at my home at 9 Bryants Brook (near High School).
We also need volunteers before, after, and throughout the game. All wrestlers who are not participating in the game are expected to help out at some point, and we’ll need as many parents as possible as well.
Set up 1:00-3:00
First half
Second half
I will send out updated emails as people commit to the donations and shifts.
Thank you in advance for your help. Please pass this along if you know of someone not on the distribution list. Feel free to contact Sherry McReynolds ( if you would like to be removed from the list. I look forward to working with all of you!!

Making a Difference – Live Clinic @ Sacred Heart, 9/23 @ 10:00 AM

September 18, 2012 Leave a comment

Here’s a heads up by way of Wilton Youth Wrestling’s Ted Young and Coach Foldeak:

USA Wrestling will be hosting a coaches and wrestlers clinic at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m.

Leading the clinic will be former Lehigh University head wrestling coach Greg Strobel and 2010 NCAA Division I Champion J.P. O’Connor.

Strobel served as a U.S. freestyle Olympic Team Coach in 1996 and 2000 and coached Lehigh to 189 dual meet wins in his 14 years at the helm in Bethlehem. As a wrestler at Oregon State, Strobel was a two-time NCAA Champion and a three-time Pac-8 Conference champion. He was voted the Outstanding Wrestler of the 1973 NCAA Division I Championships.

O’Connor was a three-time All-American at Harvard for coach Jay Weiss and as a high school wrestler, he was a four-time New York state champion. He is currently an assistant coach at Harvard.

Proceeds from this clinic will directly benefit the Division I program at Sacred Heart, Division II programs at Wesleyan University, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Trinity College.

“My hope is that this event is really going to be a ribbon cutting for the new era of Sacred Heart wrestling,” said Sacred Heart head coach Andy Lausier. “I saw a couple of opportunities to really build a unique and successful program. By having Greg Strobel and J.P. O’Connor on campus, it’s a great opportunity for coaches and wrestlers in Connecticut to rub shoulders with some of the greatest in our sport.

“I want to create an open channel with the youth and scholastic channels in Connecticut,” he said. “Thinking big picture, not just your specific team, but how do you grow wrestling? I think that falls on the shoulders of wrestling coaches around the country.”

Sacred Heart is the lone Division I wrestling program in Connecticut and the only Catholic college with a Division I wrestling program, but Lausier wants to extend the benefits of the Making A Difference clinic to more than just his program.

“I’m a Division III guy, having wrestled at Lycoming College and coming through the Division III ranks,” said Lausier. “I see tremendous value in all levels of college wrestling. By working collaboratively, we can do great things to benefit each other. This isn’t just for Sacred Heart, but to help create a buzz for all of the college wrestling programs in this state.”

Cost for the clinic is $10 and interested participants can register by clicking here or by cutting/pasting the URL below into your browser.

Late registration will be available the day of the clinic, starting at 9 a.m.

All wrestlers will receive posters featuring the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team in all three styles. There is no requirement to be a USA Wrestling member. USA Wrestling will provide a free membership for the day for all participants.

For more information on the event, contact Sacred Heart head wrestling coach Andy Lausier at or by phone at (203) 615-3827.
