Keep Recruiting, Lifting, Wrestling….and Studying

Good meeting yesterday! Make sure you get your blue cards signed by your parents and your WHS Activity fee ($25) paid before the season. If your sports physical is out of date, or if it will expire during the season, we expect you to get that taken care of ASAP. Coaches will host another very brief meeting sometime during the week of November 8th to collect forms. You will not be able to practice on the 29th of November without all 3 items being in (and current).

There are a couple of Connecticut pre-season tournaments left. One’s in Bristol this coming weekend. The other is in Danbury next weekend. Click the links for more info.

Also, as the season approaches, you need to begin thinking about managing your time effectively. The coaches expect you to work hard off the mat and on it. That will take organization, effort and commitment. Your school work is a priority — but leaving school work till the last minute isn’t an effective way to excel. It’s also not a good excuse for missing practice.

We distributed schedules for a reason. Plan your study time around your competition and practice schedule.

If you’re involved in other extra-curricular activities at school, you may find yourself having to make a choice between those and wrestling if you want to excel on the mat. Know what’s important, and when, and prioritize. Keep the coaches informed at all times if you absolutely can’t make it to practice.

Get in the habit of using your “free” periods to get your school work done. When we have practice in the evening because we share the field house with track, basketball, cheer leading, etc., use the time between the end of school and practice to do your homework. Make the most of your off-the-mat time, so that when it’s time to practice, you can focus 100% on wrestling.

Keep recruiting. Remind freshmen to register for this site so they get in the information loop. Live by the WHS school motto: Nihil Nisi Praestantia! Nothing but excellence! Represent yourself, your team, and your school in a positive way at all times, and eventually you may be able to say Veni, vidi, vici!
